Cannes, Le Palais des Festivals hosts MIPCOM, a 4 day world entertainment content market event from 5 – 8 October 2015. Showcasing the global market for entertainment content across all platforms.

A tragic start to this event with the French Riviera hit by an unprecedented storm that killed 20 people in Cannes and the surround areas, homes, shops, buildings and cars were severely damaged and some destroyed. Guests attending the event were left without phone lines, Internet or bank access. The opening red carpet night at MIPCOM was relocated from the Martinez, which was hit badly in the storm to the Carlton.

More than 1700 decision makers and exhibitors from above 100 countries will come to the event to display and speak about products related to the field of television, content production and distribution, Video and DVD, Cinema, New media, mobile, advertising, licensing and merchandising, service and post production. They will do networking with the people who are engaged in entertainment and technological sectors.

GSMA announced on July 14 in Shanghai that the Mobile World Congress will continue in Barcelona right up until 2023! This was a controversial move as it was expected the new Barcelona mayor Ada Colau would not be in favor of the Congress staying in Barcelona having previously deemed it “elitist” and questioned whether the congress is in fact beneficial to the city and would like to see more locals being hired and more resources to be dedicated to other parts of the city. While Fira de Barcelona provides the basic infrastructure for the event, the overall organization is handled by the GSMA directly. This generates a third of the yearly revenue of the Fira.

Barcelona’s mayor Adu Colau expressed her will to develop the social side of the event. “We must be capable of doing everything possible so the event serves to redistribute the income it generates among the whole society”. The mayor went on to say “It’s also important to develop local industry which is involved in new technologies, paying special attention to social, environmental and sustainable applications”.

Paris and Amsterdam tried hard to take the event from Barcelona but it will remain in the Spanish city for another 8 years!

The world’s largest mobile congress (GSMA Mobile World Congress) started in Barcelona in 2007. In 2006 the congress moved from Cannes (France) to a bigger venue at La Fira and then in 2013 moved to Gran Via at l’Hospitalet to accommodate more attendees in the new modern Fira, which is one of the largest in Europe designed by the Japanese architect Toyo Ito. Before re-branding as the Mobile World Congress the event was initially called GSM World Congress and later the 3GSM.

Booking Hotels, Apartments or Villas for big groups can be tricky especially during congress or tradeshows when accommodation can be very limited and more expensive than other times of the year. So what is the best course of action then?

Firstly find a trusted and easy to work with agent who has experience and a transparent service to provide you with all of your travel needs. Such as a website where you can find easily information about Who they are and the Services they offer, Testimonials from clients, and Where you can find them! Which is usually at the bottom of the website when you scroll down.

Have your requirements as clear as possible. This speeds up the search and means the offers you receive are the most relevant to match your criteria. So your dates are vital as prices and availability change depending on the dates. How many rooms and if they are for double or individual use is important and your budget is also key because properties vary a lot in cost so it enables your agent to search for the right hotel/villa/apartment. Depending on the availability you can select your preferred accommodation from a range of different offers, usually a minimum of 3 are provided.
